For the past couple of years, I’ve missed the Brighton Speed Trials, an epic motorsport event that takes place in Brighton’s seafront. There, road cars, racing cars and bikes take part in trying to be the fastest in their category.
I personally love the Speed Trials because it’s one of those rare urban motorsport events that still run on the streets and it’s not spoiled by the current climate of overprotection and nonsensical health and safety rules. Yes, the speed trials have safety as the main priority for drivers and spectators alike but it still a dangerous sport and it’s still competitive, not just for demonstration.
So this year, I let the press photographers be in charge of the racing and action shots and instead, I focused on a more behind the scenes and fine art mood for the event, I limited myself to shoot only on an 85mm lens with the Nikon D810 and to test the wide-angle and flash capabilities of the RX100 III which I got a couple of days before the event.
Here’s what I shot:
Gear used: Sony Rx100 III @ 24mm / Nikon D810, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art
